Armchair Travelling With GoogleEarth

I’ve always been bitten by the travel bug – ever since I can remember. However, when you are footloose and fancy free, you can just up and go at a moment’s notice. There were times when an itinerary was anathema to me – I stayed where I wanted, for as long as I could and moved on if the place didn’t appeal.

Now that was long ago. Today, tickets and hotel rooms are booked in advance, arrangements made, a timetable set. Sure, it has its charm but we find that we don’t do it as often as we did or as we would like to simply because there are responsibilities and other important things in our life to consider as well. Now that is where the computer comes in. It’s been a great boon getting reasonably priced tickets when we want them – but there’s more excitement in store getting connected to the world through Google.

With Google Earth, you can sit in front of your computer screen and zip around the world like Superman, faster maybe than the speed of light. You really do feel all omnipresent – one moment looking at the Great Wall of China and the next, staring down at those wonderful ancient and mysterious pyramids. From Paris to Down Under, from the ruins of the Incas to the Victoria Falls – you have a voyage of discovery before you and all it takes is the click of a mouse!

It’s a great way to see the world – a tool that allows you to be here, there and everywhere like that old song.
